Report an Error

A Brief Explanation

I have spent nearly two years creating The Book of Psychedelics. Over that time I have spent thousands of hours created every single element of the book, with the exception of 2 illustrations, pictures of P. cubensis, and a few of the 3d models or images used in the creation of the artwork. While I would have loved to hire an editor, those I contacted quoted me with prices in excess of $3,000 US, which I simply cannot afford as a student. I say these things not with the intention of inflating my ego, but simply to point out the fact that I am just one person juggling all of the balls and I have and probably will occasionally drop one. If you have found a mistake in your copy of the book, please read the known errors list below. If your error is not on the list, please report it using the form at the bottom of the page before deciding to post a negative review. I genuinely gave this my maximum effort and my only intention was to create the best book possible. Of course, you should certainly post a negative review if you believe other people should not buy it in the future, but I would like the opportunity to resolve its issues without crushing all of my hard work or reducing the ability of others to enjoy an updated version.

While I will not be able to fix your exact copy, one of the reasons I decided to self-publish is the speed at which corrections can be made. After upload, most changes are approved and implemented in books within 72 hours. Even if the book has already been purchased, it does not print until just before it is shipped. This means that corrections may also be put into effect in books that have already been ordered but not yet fulfilled. I will verify reports, correct errors, and submit the updated manuscript to both retailers as soon as I possibly can.

Thank you for your patience and consideration.

Known Errors and Their Correction Status

1st Print Run 1/13/22-1/22/22:

  • B&N hardcover designs are off-center:

    • Description: This is likely to be the first error you notice, and the one that most people will take offense to. B&N provides a custom template for an author's cover design based on the final page count of their book, which includes lines indicating the margins and cutoff points of the design and instructions on how to ensure your design is positioned properly. There seemed to be an implication that I needed to center the design to the margins, but that was not the case. While the cover issues do not detract from the reading experience, it is a grievous mistake and makes the book less beautiful.

  • AR Codes not opening

    • Description: The AR animations have extremely large file sizes as a result of both the resolution required for the images to be clear and Adobe Aero requiring animations to be uploaded as .png sequences. PNG images are lossless, meaning their files are very large. This can cause the Adobe Aero app to display the message: Failed to Load Experience: Operation Timed Out. This is an inconsistent issue on Adobe's end and was not present when I created and tested the animations. Their support team recommends allowing the app to remain open and untouched for around 10 minutes while the animation loads in the background. If this does not work, there may be issues with your internet or mobile data connection, or a server issue on their end. Please contact me if the issue persists and I will send you direct links to the animations so you can watch them in non-AR form.

  • Difficulty with AR tracking

    • Description: Despite having tested Adobe Aero's image tag scanning capabilities extensively before and while creating the animations, the app appears to have trouble tracking the animation to the book. The issue likely comes from a combination of lighting and the conversion from RGB to CYMK messing with the hue and dynamic range of the images. I was able to get the images to track a few times, but it was spotty at best. If the issue persists, you can still view the animation in AR by clicking "view without tag" and scanning a nearby flat surface to place the image on. Otherwise, contact me and I will send you links to the animation. The issues with AR seem to be primarily environmental, but if the issue is widespread I will replace them with links to video animations that can be viewed on your phone or tablet.

Irresolvable Issues

Unfortunately, print-on-demand books do not have the same level of quality as those printed by a publisher for inventory. As such, you may notice some issues with the book that are errors in or limitations of the manufacturing process. I am sorry if you are experiencing them as I found nothing but great reviews during my research, but print-on-demand is the only way I can afford to release the book at this time, and allows for the fastest changes to be made so information remains accurate and up-to-date.

    • B&N hardcovers appear dull/flat compared to renders

      • As can be seen on the previously linked page, the cover was designed to be far more vibrant and detailed than it appears in print. The issue was known before I released the book, and to my knowledge is unavoidable. It is caused by the image being created in the Adobe RGB color space and the cover printing in CYMK. If you know of a workaround for this, please reach out to me at thebookofpsychedelics@gmail.com so I can update it immediately.

    • Full-page images not laying flat

      • This is simply caused by the page being saturated with ink on one side while remaining relatively blank on the other, and should resolve over time as the spine loosens and the pages are compressed by the closed book. Remember, every copy was printed right before it was sent out, so compared to books purchased in-store or that have been inventoried, the pages have not had time to settle and flatten.

    • Print Errors

      • Upon flipping through the pages of my copy, I noticed several small but irritating imperfections in the printing, such as smudges, areas of low-saturation, and one page that had formed a wrinkle in the printer and curved an image slightly. I have not seen a single example of a book printed through B&N having such issues in any of their print quality reviews, so I am holding out hope that this is a one-off issue with my copy. Though they do not seem to significantly detract from the book's readability, I worked very hard to try and make the ownership and reading of this book a premium experience, and these imperfections detract from that. I will be contacting B&N to see if there is anything they can do to resolve their printer issues, but there is nothing else I can do.
